The small town of Dunwick was a peaceful, sleepy place where not much happened. The streets were lined with neat little houses, and the residents lived a quiet, orderly life. But the one thing that set Dunwick apart from other towns was the old, run-down hotel on its outskirts. Known as the Dunwick Inn, it was an imposing structure with tall, dark windows and an air of mystery that always hung around it. The locals avoided it like the plague, but nobody could explain why. The story began with a newcomer who moved to the town named Jack.
Jack was a curious and daring young man with a passion for exploring old buildings and ravaging their secrets. One evening, as he strolled past the Dunwick Inn, he couldn’t help but feel a sudden case of wanting to create mischief, almost as if the building was asking for it’s own destruction. Ignoring his unlawful instincts, Jack decided to enter the hotel and see for himself what was so frightening about it. As he stepped inside, he noticed that the hotel seemed deserted, with not a single guest or staff member in sight. Jack found this odd, considering how well-maintained the exterior of the hotel was.
Jack destructively stomped through the hotel and he soon found himself drawn to room 204. Where a strange, musty smell seemed to sneak through the air. Slowly, he unlocked the door and stepped inside. The room was dark and dusty, filled with old, decaying furniture. As Jack fumbled around for a light switch, he finally found one and turned it on. To his horror, the room was drenched in blood – it was splattered across the walls, pooled on the floor, and dripped from the ceiling.
Screaming in terror, Jack stumbled out of the room and ran through the hotel, desperate to escape. He burst through the front doors and sprinted down the street, his heart pounding in his chest. When he finally stopped to catch his breath, he realized that he was back in front of the Dunwick Inn. To his disbelief, there was no sign of any blood or gore; the hotel looked as abandoned and eerie as it had before. Confused and terrified, Jack stumbled home, determined to forget what he had seen.

The following days were a nightmare for Jack. He couldn’t sleep, couldn’t eat, and he couldn’t shake the horrifying images from his mind. He told the townsfolk what had happened, but no one believed him. In fact, they seemed almost offended that he would tarnish the town’s reputation with such a gruesome story. With no one to trust and no one to believe him, Jack was at his wit’s end.
In a final attempt to get answers, for his own sanity; Jack decided to break into the hotel and search for clues about what had happened in room 204. As he crept through the dark, empty halls, he felt the same sense of dread he had experienced before. The musty smell was still present, and Jack felt his heart race as he approached room 204 once again. Gathering his courage, he unlocked the door and stepped inside.
To his shock, the room was now filled with the bodies of hotel guests, all of whom had been brutally murdered. Their faces were frozen in terror, and blood covered every surface. Unable to bear the sight, Jack stumbled out of the room and ran from the hotel, his mind racing with the horrific images he had just seen. As he reached the edge of town, he found a small, eerie cemetery. In it was a single grave, marked only with the number 204. Jack dug up the grave, and to his horror, he found the bodies of the hotel guests buried beneath it.
Jack knew he had to do something. He gathered the townsfolk and told them what he had discovered, but they still refused to believe him. Desperate, Jack dug up the grave and showed them the bodies, but even then, they refused to accept the truth. Jack’s pleas for action fell on deaf ears, and the townsfolk accused him of being a liar and a troublemaker. Angry towsfolk shouted and even chanted: “Lock ’em up!”, “He’s a wackjob” and even some of them stated he was on drugs and called him a crackpot. The reality is, what Jack saw that day, was true to him. So true, that it forever changed his life.
In the end, Jack was forced to flee Dunwick, unable to convince the town of the horrors that lay within the Dunwick Inn. The hotel still stands today, an silent witness to the gruesome history hidden within its walls. But no one dares to enter room 204, and the bloody secrets of the past remain locked away, a mystery that may never be solved.
