Two days ago, I posted a challenge to enhance my vocabulary. Today is Day one of the challenge. I hope you like whatever I write about. Enjoy!
Day 1 – Observation & Description
- Writing: Write a 200-word description of a room, park, or street. Focus on sights, sounds, smells.
- Vocabulary: Note 5 new descriptive words from your reading or writing.
Today, is the day. I thought to myself. I work finally get to get out of the house. I don’t have too many days where I leave. I am quite the hermit. At least, that is what I am told. Despite that, I am going to the races with my family.
If you have never been to a race, most certainly, it is something to see. Something to enjoy. Rather than sitting at home in my room focusing on growing the funds in my wallet. It’s a nice change of scenery. It allows me to actually have fun. Even though crypto charts are fun to watch, especially meme coins. I would much rather go see different tiered cars racing one another.
The dirty atmosphere isn’t even a problem. When comparing the thrill of each driver’s unique skill to see who is the fastest and safest driver on the track. Have you ever been to a race? In my opinion the dirt is a plus. The roaring engines of each car sounding similar with slightly different capabilities is exciting. I could see a race event daily and enjoy most of them.
I also like seeing crashes. Is that bad. I remember seeing one car on fire, still making his way around the track until the emergency vehicles came out and extinguished the flames licking their way out of the racecars hood.
I really enjoy the food that they serve at these events too. Some days, it is a barbeque that I didn’t have to personally prepare and risk burning my food by mistake. Plus, they usually use ingredients I haven’t had the option to use. Some food smells so amazing. Like when you are waiting in line to order and your mouth waters from the scent. I really love those types of lines. Especially when I am hungry.
My kids love going to the races too. Some days, they do happen to get a bit overwhelmed or cranky as the night sky begins to take over. When we first get there, they are excited. They are ready for snacks and food that we typically don’t make at our home. It’s been a few years since we have gone. I think the next time races come around, we are going. Maybe even a few times. Maybe even a destruction derby or a monster trucks session. Those are always something to look forward to.
I haven’t been to too many over my life. Over the past ten years, I have probably only been to seven races. I have enjoyed each one. The only time I had a bad experience was when I had too many too drink and ended up wandering off when the race was over. I found myself waking up in a field in the middle of nowhere and had to figure out my way home.
Waking up drunk like that is never good. This is part of the reasons I don’t drink. Not only do I get disoriented, but, I become sporadic. I become unpredictable. I might just get up and leave to not be seen again. Or, I go home and wake up sick the next day. Of all the races, only one had that type of experience. I was an alcoholic back then and have learned some valuable life lessons since.
Regardless, I have always had a memorable time at the race events. Even though I had one bad experience with drinking during one. I learned from that and know that I shouldn’t consume a lot of alcohol in one setting. Even if the time seems to be passing quickly.
This is it for this practice write. I hope you enjoyed it. I will be focusing on improving my writing over time. If you would enjoy a small writing challenge check out the following post:
