My favorite kind of weather is when the sun is shining. The best part about sunny days is that we get to spend more time outdoors. Whether it’s tending to the garden, doing yard work, or skateboarding, everything feels better when the sun is out. We also plan to visit the lake and go camping a few times this summer. Camping is always a blast! We’ll hike, swim in the lakes, or simply relax by the campfire, roasting s’mores and grilling tasty things like burgers. The spot we usually go to is by a river, and one of my favorite activities is searching for unique river rocks with the kids. It’s always a fun adventure!
We’ve had our fair share of wildlife encounters—bears, deer, elk, and the like. I need to remember to charge the camera more often so I can capture those moments. Now that the weather has turned fair, we’ll be spending more time outdoors as a family. Winters in Montana can be brutal, with snowfall lasting for weeks, making the air feel frigid and nearly unbearable. It’s the kind of cold that makes you want to stay inside all the time, only going outdoors when absolutely necessary. But there are also those rare days when the snow invites us outside, where we can build a snowman or have a snowball fight.
I miss the days when those snowball fights would spread through the entire neighborhood—one well-aimed snowball could spark an hour-long battle until someone got hit with an over-packed one, ending the fun in tears and bruises. It feels like I hardly see kids playing outside anymore. My kids love being outdoors, though. I don’t let them stray beyond the yard just yet; they’re still a bit young to explore the neighborhood on their own. But, they would spend the entire night in the yard if I let them. Maybe one day they’ll have those carefree snowball adventures in the neighborhood. I’m hopeful.
I’m grateful that the weather is finally warming up, and I’m looking forward to getting some much-needed exercise at the park in the next few days. For me, that means either practicing a few skateboarding tricks to get my body moving or just cruising along the trail around the pond. Who knows? I might even jog around the pond. One of my goals for this spring and summer is to get in better shape and make healthier choices along the way. What are your goals for the spring/summer?
